Chorges, Hautes-Alpes village

Located in the heart of the Hautes-Alpes department, in the Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur region, the commune of Chorges is on the east side of the right bank of the Serre-Ponçon Lake. It has 2,849 inhabitants, called the Caturiges, on a surface area of more than 5,000 hectares.

Labelled Village Etape et Station Verte, Chorges stretches from 825m to over 2,000m in altitude with the summits of Pousterle (2056 m), Piolit and Chabrières, which are home to exceptional natural sites.

Halfway between the towns of Embrun and Gap, Chorges is at the crossroads between lake and mountain and is very much oriented towards tourism, the main economic activity of the municipality.

Lake Serre-Ponçon

The major asset of our holiday village located in Chorges is obviously to be located on the edge of Lake Serre-Ponçon.

Bordered by the Alps, it almost looks like a small sea. Between wild creeks and turquoise water, the lake of Serre-Ponçon is a real sea in the mountains.

With numerous beaches and water sports bases around the lake, Hautes-Alpes, this extraordinary 28 km2 lake is the largest artificial lake in France and the largest earth dam in Europe.

No matter what time of the year you visit, you will never tire of admiring the splendour of this jewel of the Southern Alps.

Les Écrins National Park

Stretching from the shores of the lake to the highest peaks at nearly 3000m altitude, the Ecrins National Park is one of the most beautiful Alpine natural parks in France. It contains several high altitude lakes (Lac Brun, Lac de l'Hivernet, Lac du Crachet), waterfalls (cascade de la Pisse, de Réallon, des Razis...), alpine pastures and always with the lake of Serre-Ponçon as a backdrop.

The park offers its visitors a wide range of hiking options. On the shores of the lake, the routes are accessible to all (tour of the lake, the wetland of Petit Liou, the fig of Crots, the path linking the bays of Chanteloube and Saint-Michel, etc.). On the heights, the lake of Saint-Apollinaire is worth the detour and deserves at least half a day.

Hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, ... the Hautes-Alpes region is a real paradise for nature lovers where you can breathe pure mountain air and practice all imaginable outdoor sports.

Towns and villages

Chorges is one of the many small alpine villages in the Serre-Ponçon region.

Among the must-see places worth a trip during your stay in the Ecrin du Lac, Embrun and Gap.

EMBRUN

Nicknamed the "Nice of the Alps", Embrun is a fortress town enthroned on its rock. This small town, rich in its glorious past, deserves a long day's visit, to explore the maze of pedestrian streets, the facades in pastel or brighter tones, the shady squares with their many fountains and above all Embrun Cathedral, Notre-Dame du Réal, a marvel of Gothic art, classified as a historic monument.

GAP

A must on the Napoleon Route between Grenoble and the Mediterranean, Gap, welcomes you to its vast pedestrian areas for a stroll along the shops, in its museum or for a meal in one of its many restaurants.

This small but beautiful town is definitely worth a visit. It impresses by its exquisite nature, its magnificent mountain scenery and attracts by the beauty of its streets, monuments and unusual places.
