HOLIDAY PARKS IN OCCITANIA: The region of Portiragnes

OUR HOLIDAY parks ARE located in a rich and welcoming region...

On the edge of the Mediterranean Sea and its fine sandy beaches, a stone's throw from the Canal du Midi, and beautiful medieval towns, you are in Portiragnes-Plage located in the Languedoc Roussillon and more precisely in the Hérault department between Valras (approx. 10 km) and Cap d'Agde (approx. 15 km).

The Hérault, shaped like an amphitheatre around the deep blue sea, offers a complete range of breathtaking landscapes, archaeological sites, natural spaces, picturesque villages, historical and cultural cities.

Whether you want to live there all year round or discover it for a season, this rich heritage will seduce you. You will certainly come back a second time.

SEASIDE HOLIDAY PARKS

Portiragnes

4 km from our holiday village, the village of Portiragnes, bordered by the Canal du Midi and surrounded by vineyards, has developed around its 12th century basalt church of Saint-Félix, which has been classified as a historical monument since 14 September 1998.

Away from the sea front, this charming little village is the starting point for many walks on foot or directly on a barge.

Portiragnes-Plage (Pavillon Bleu since 1996 and Station Verte since 2007) is a family, young and sporty seaside resort where pedestrians and cyclists are kings. Preserved from concrete and urban areas, it wants to be "Station Verte" by its unspoilt nature, its dunes... between sea and land, a small Camargue, home to ducks, grey herons and pink flamingos...

The coastline & beaches of Portiragnes-Plage

Our holiday park is located about 100 metres from the Mediterranean Sea and the beaches.

Located between Vias and Sérignan, the seaside resort of Portiragnes is not the best known of those in Languedoc-Roussillon. However, this resort has preserved a natural environment, very different from the large seaside resorts of the Hérault. On both sides of Portiragnes, there are many wet areas with pedestrian paths (also accessible by bike). An air of the Camargue that is not far away.

On the Portiragnes beaches side, you can enjoy a sandy beach of about 2 km from Vias-Plage to Sérignan. The nature side of this beach, which is protected from the town centre and cars by large dunes, is particularly pleasant. The width of the beaches is important, it is not uncommon to find a setback of nearly 50 meters.

The beach of La Redoute, located the most easterly, is very pleasant, despite the traffic which can be important because of several campsites on the side of Vias. Along the seafront there is a large beach which is supervised in summer. Further west, at the level of the Bosquet, a beautiful beach with a picnic area in the woods is available to holidaymakers. Heading towards Sérignan, the natural side prevails with the natural site of La Grande Maïre where many migratory birds can be observed. The beach is magnificent. As far as pets are concerned, dogs are accepted on condition that they are kept on a leash on the west beach after the sailing school. The other beaches closest to Portiragnes allowing dogs are on the Narbonne-Plage side (40 min by car).

Canal du Midi (Unesco)

The Canal du Midi, 240 km long, is the work of PP Ricquet dating from the 17th century, it connects the Mediterranean to the Atlantic Ocean. Its banks, lined with plane trees, are an invitation to go for a walk, a bike ride or even, along the water, in a barge... because the Canal du Midi is today dedicated to yachting and cruises. Sailing is no longer a dream...

You can rent your barge and thus contemplate the most beautiful landscapes, pass through towns and villages, cross the river Orb by a canal bridge and even climb a hill via the 8 locks of Fonséranes (out of a total of 63 locks).

The "Canal du Midi" or the village of "Saint Guilhem le Désert" built at the foot of impressive limestone cliffs and a stopover point for the Pilgrimage of Santiago de Compostela are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site ...

The towns and villages of the Hérault region

The Hérault is also rich in historical, archaeological, cultural and festive heritage...

An excursion to the big cities of Béziers, Carcassonne, Pézénas, Lunel, Sète or Narbonne is a must. Montpellier is only an hour's drive from the estate.

BÉZIERS, OLDEST TOWN IN FRANCE

Located only 15 kilometres from Portiragnes, the city of Béziers is considered to be the oldest city in France. It is an ideal destination for a half-day excursion, especially in low season. Crossed by the Orb, the Canal du Midi and surrounded by vineyards, Béziers offers its visitors splendid landscapes.

PÉZÉNAS, THE CITY OF MOLIÈRE

A little less popular but nevertheless rich in history, Pézénas has been able to evolve and develop its tourist attractions while preserving its authenticity. Situated 25km from Portiragnes, the historic heart of this former trade fair town, home of Molière and his illustrious theatre, is a return to history. To discover absolutely during a stay in Portiragnes.

MONTPELLIER, THE MOST ATTRACTIVE CITY IN THE SOUTH OF FRANCE

In a completely different style, the city of Montpellier, elegant and cultural, with Mediterranean blood running through its veins, has dynamism to spare. Its pedestrian zone, the historic medieval centre, nicknamed the "Escutcheon", is a paradise for strolling. The many shady squares invite you to relax and convey a "village within the city" atmosphere. Among the must-see places, the Place de la Comédie, the Esplanade Charles de Gaulle, the Arc de Triomphe, the Cathedral Saint-Pierre, ... so many new buildings to admire during a visit to Montpellier.

Roquebrun, the little Nice of the Hérault region

The village of Roquebrun is one of the most beautiful villages in the region. Its Mediterranean garden, a conservatory of aromatic and medicinal plants, is worth the detour as well as the dungeon and the old town.
